January 2008 The New Quick Mortgage Minute
Weekly Newsletter for Your Business!
Sam Dear Sam,

Good Morning!

I need some mental support today because its my birthday and it's a real big one.  But, I'll never tell which one!    So today would be a great day to cheer me up with a good referral!!

Anyway, from feedback from some of my favorite realtors and colleagues,  I am condensing my weekly email and format.  Hopefully, with this new format, you will make reading my emails a great way to start your work week every Monday morning from this week forward for years to come!

Note,  for the next few weeks, these new condensed emails are going to be a tad longer with my Superbowl Challenge results at the bottom, then they're going to be much shorter,  I promise!

Sam Thompson, Senior Mortgage Advisor
Mortgage Services, PHH Mortgage

Our client list includes these national accounts.
PHH Mortgage originates, processes, closes and services mortgages for these clients for up to 40 years under their company logos.  In other words, when their clients call them for a mortgage, we do all the work for them.  They wanted a mortgage department so they hired us to be it for them!  These companies trust us to represent them for their reputation in the industry which is why I am proud to be a part of this strong company.

Also, in case you hadn't heard, we have been under contract to be purchased by The Blackstone Group for several months but the deal fell through, but, not before we received a $50 million reverse termination fee!

Blackstone is a leading global alternative asset manager and provider of financial advisory services listed on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker symbol BX) with total assets under management of approximately $98.2 billion as of September 30, 2007.

Here is a quote from Mr. Chinh Chu, Senior Managing Director of Blackstone that shows how we are preceived in the financial industry and why they went after us in such a big way.
"We share PHH's disappointment that this transaction was not able to be completed. PHH operates one of the premier mortgage banking platforms in the country, and they have demonstrated impressive stability and resilience in light of the turbulent market conditions affecting their industry. It is especially regrettable that, even for a company of PHH's quality, acquisition financing for any part of the mortgage sector was unavailable as a result of the sub-prime crisis."
Now, here's my quick sales pitch:
Do you believe in the "herd behavior"?  Well, if you do, I want to invite you to join the GREAT BIG HERD with the companies above and start recommending us us to your buyers this year!!  If you do, we'll help build your reputation and standings in your markets too! For those of you that already do this on a regular basis, I am deeply honored and grateful for your business and support.
One last thing:

I was hired by PHH Mortgage to support the following brands:

phhlogo   cblogo

    c21logoeralogo

Any time I am working with your client, if you are under a specific brand, I am projecting your brand logo in all that I say and do as do my colleagues.

Weekly Mortgage Commentary Snippet
Rate Lock Advisory - Sunday Jan. 13th

This week brings us the release of eight pieces of economic data to digest. There is no relevant data scheduled for release tomorrow, but two of the week's most important releases are coming Tuesday morning. December's Retail Sales data is the first. It measures consumer spending by tracking sales at retail establishments in the U.S. Since consumer spending makes up two-thirds of the U.S. economy, any related data is watched closely. Current forecasts are calling for an increase in sales from November's levels of approximately 0.1%.

The second report of the day will be released by the Labor Department. They will post the Producer Price Index (PPI) at 8:30 AM, which helps us measure inflationary pressures at the producer level of the economy.

The Packers beat the Seahawks at Lambeau Field in a memorable snowbowl, 42-20 with Brett Favre having another record setting day putting them at 14-3 this season so far.  Surprisingly, after 17 years with the Packers, this was Brett's first big snow game and it was a blizzard and a lot of fun to watch.

Despite David Garrard's great game with Jacksonville and the JAX's tough defense, Tom Brady's Patriots were unstoppable in a very competitive match in Roxborough, Mass that wasn't decided until the last few minutes.  Final score 20-31.  Brady was almost perfect going 26 for 28 and keeping their perfect season alive at 17-0!

In the first upset of the playoffs, the San Diego Chargers without the help of LaDainaina Tomlinson (LT) and Philip Rivers, handed one of America's favorite quarterbacks, Peyton Manning and his Colts a stunning defeat in Indianapolis 28-24.  LT left the game in the first half and Rivers in the 3rd quarter but backups Michael Turner, Billy Volek and the rest of the determined Chargers pulled them through.  Now the Chargers have to face the Patriots and possibly without 2 key starters.

Tony Romo can go wherever he wants with Jessica Simpson now.  Eli Manning and the New York Giants knocked him and the Dallas Cowboys into the off-season in Texas Stadium yesterday for the 2nd upset of the day.  This 21-17 victory puts the Giants into the NFC Championship for the 1st time since the 2000 season and now they will have to face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau!  Maybe we'll get to see another snowbowl!  Not many picked the younger Manning to win and the older to lose!  At this point, anything can happen.
